Organization: Kappa Beta Gamma Sorority

Date Violation Charged*: February 24, 2020

Description of Violation: Allegation of potential hazing reported to the Office of Student Conduct.

Investigation Findings: It was reported that new members of Kappa Beta Gamma were potentially engaging in activities that could be depriving new members of sleep as part of their new member education process. After investigation, the allegation was deemed unfounded.

Organization: Delta Zeta Sorority

Date Violation Charged*: February 8, 2020

Description of Violation: Allegation of potential hazing reported to the Office of Student Conduct.

Investigation Findings: It was reported that new members of Delta Zeta were potentially engaging in activities that could subject new members to risk of emotional or physical harm. After investigation, the allegation was deemed unfounded.

Date Violation Charged*: November 22, 2019

Description of Violation: Allegation of potential hazing reported to the Office of Student Conduct.

Investigation Findings: It was reported that new members of Theta Xi were potentially engaging in activities that could be depriving new members of sleep as part of their new member education process. After investigation, the allegation was deemed unfounded.

Organization: Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity

Date Violation Charged*: May 3, 2019

Description of Violation: Charged with violating the University's Antihazing Policy

Investigation Findings: Found in violation of the University’s Policy on Hazing. Alpha Kappa Psi’s new member education program consisted of activities that involved potential risk of embarrassment, sleep deprivation, scavenger hunts, and other activities inconsistent with academic achievement or the purpose, ritual, or policy of the organization.

Sanctions: Alpha Kappa Psi was placed on probation until April 11, 2020.  Additionally, they were required to create a new member education plan, send at least two members to sit on the Shippensburg University Anti-Hazing Task Force, and to participate and help plan Anti-Hazing initiatives for the 2019-2020 academic year.

 Kappa Delta Phi National Affiliated Sorority

Date Violation Charged*: May 3, 2019

Description of Violation: Charged with violating the University's Antihazing Policy.

Investigation Findings: Found in violation of the University’s Policy on Hazing. Kappa Delta Phi NAS hosted a new member activity that involved potential risk of bodily harm and potential risk of embarrassment.

Sanctions: Kappa Delta Phi NAS was placed on probation until April 2, 2020. Additionally, they were required to create a new member education plan, send at least two members to sit on the Shippensburg University Anti-Hazing Task Force, and to participate and help plan Anti-Hazing initiatives for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Date Violation Charged*: April 8, 2019

Description of Violation: Allegation of potential hazing reported to the Office of Student Conduct.

Investigation Findings: It was reported that new members of Phi Sigma Kappa were engaging in activities that could be part of an alleged scavenger hunt as part of their new member education process. After investigation, the allegation was deemed unfounded.

Organization: Theta Xi Fraternity

Date Violation Charged*: January 31, 2019

Description of Violation: Charged with violating the University's Antihazing Policy.

Investigation Findings: Thirty-three Theta Xi fraternity members were found in violation of the University’s Policy on Hazing. Theta Xi Fraternity hosted a date party where new members were mandated to wear uniform dress, act as designated drivers, and sober brothers (setting up for the party, serving as bartenders, cleaning up after the party).

Sanctions: Theta Xi Fraternity was placed on probation until December 13, 2019. Every member of the fraternity was required to complete the Connection Alcohol and Other Drug Education Program. Theta Xi was responsible for creating responsible host and risk management policies that were due to the university on April 1, 2019. Theta Xi members were also required to participate and help plan Anti-Hazing Education initiatives through the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Organization: Women's Rugby Club

Date Violation Charged*: January 30, 2017

Description of Violation: Charged with having violated the University's Policy on Hazing.

Investigation Findings: Found in violation of the University's Policy on Hazing.

Sanctions: Women's Rugby Club members were suspended from club activities until spring semester of 2018, barred from recruiting new members, practicing as a team, and representing the University at private/public events or functions until the spring semester of 2018. Several members of the Women's Rugby Club were placed on probation. Some members were required to present mandatory educational programs and draft a new player contract.

Organization: Women's Softball Team

Date Violation Charged*: November 7, 2016

Description of Violation: Charged with having violated the University's Policy on Hazing.

Investigation Findings: Found in violation of the University's Policy on Hazing.

Sanctions: Sanctions by the Athletic Department - Several Women's Softball players were suspended for two competition dates. The entire Women's Softball Team was required to receive mandatory educational programs on the dangers of hazing. They were also required to develop stricter team rules. Specific Women's Softball players were forwarded to the Office of Student Conduct for further review.

Sanctions by Office of Student Conduct - Several Women's Softball players received the sanction of censure. One Women's Softball player was given a warning. One Women's Softball player was suspended and required to complete counseling before being readmitted. That student was also required to complete the Connection Alcohol & Other Drug program.

Men's Rugby Club

Date Violation Charged*: March 21, 2016

Description of Violation: Charged with having violated the University's Policy on Hazing.

Investigation Findings: Found in violation of the University's Policy on Hazing.

Sanctions: Men's Rugby Club placed on probation, not permitted to practice or compete in any scrimmages or games until the fall semester of 2018, required to complete community service hours, and was referred to the Connection Drug & Alcohol Program at the University.
