The purpose of the Ship SAILS program is to provide Big Spring High School students with disabilities ages 18-21 years the opportunity to continue their education and work experience in a way that supports the transition skills of vocational training, functional academics, social and communication skills, and self-advocacy in an environment that more closely aligns with life after high school. Students work at assigned worksites overseen by both school district and university undergraduate student job coaches. Students participate in inclusive instruction in collaboration with Shippensburg university undergraduate student peer mentors in a university classroom. And, students in the SAILS program participate in a variety of inclusive social activities on campus.
