Donorship

The Shippensburg University Foundation, a private nonprofit organization, was created in 1977 in recognition of the need for increased private support for Shippensburg University.

Previously, from 1960 to 1977, The Shippensburg State College Trust was the primary agency for receiving gifts from private sources. Incorporated under the nonprofit corporation law of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the purpose of receiving gifts, grants, devises, or bequests for the ultimate use of Shippensburg University, the SU Foundation received its tax-exempt status under the leadership of its first president, Richard D. Rife.

The SU Foundation opened its doors in January 1978. In April 1978, the Shippensburg State College Trust was dissolved and all of the Trust’s assets were transferred to the SU Foundation. All gifts to Shippensburg University are made to the SU Foundation which manages the funds. Today, the SU Foundation administers and manages nearly $67 million in assets.
