Shippensburg University again earns national recognition

Shippensburg University is again listed among the top 100 universities in the northeastern United States in U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings. 

In the 2016 edition of “Best Colleges,” Shippensburg is tied for 92nd in the regional university category among all institutions in the North, which encompasses 11 states and the District of Columbia.

Shippensburg is tied for 27th among just public regional universities in the North. It is also the fourth highest among the 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

It also is tied for 66th among all regional universities in the North for “best colleges for veterans,” the category that ranks schools participating in federal initiatives that help veterans and active-duty service members pay for their degrees.

The John L. Grove College of Business graduate program was recognized nationally, with its online MBA program tied for 97th and its part-time MBA program tied for 130th.

Grove College is ranked 337th nationally among nearly 500 undergraduate business schools accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. That ranking is based on surveys of college deans, according to U.S. News.

Shippensburg President Jody Harpster said the university is proud to again be included for its academic quality. “The university has a long history of providing high-quality academic programs and this ranking reinforces that we are offering students an opportunity for an education of excellence,” Harpster said. “In addition to our academic programs, we also provide students with numerous high-impact experiential learning opportunities designed to provide a strong foundation for a successful future. U.S. News said its 2016 edition of “Best Colleges” includes data on nearly 1,800 colleges and universities, including statistics on borrowing, costs and graduation rates. The rankings measure the strength of the academic programs at undergraduate institutions, with eligible schools ranked on up to 16 measures of academic excellence, including graduation rates, selectivity and freshmen retention.
