Prospective Students

Welcome to the Art & Design Department! We are pleased that you are interested in our degree program. It is important to us that we assist each student in identifying the level of interest he or she has in the visual arts (art major or art minor), and in what direction he or she wishes to pursue (art education, digital arts, fine arts, and or graphic design).

An art portfolio is not required for admission to the Art & Design Department. The University admission process is the sole criteria. Not all applicants to the Art & Design Department may have had a wealth of art studio experiences, but for the prospective student who has assembled an art portfolio, he or she is welcome to submit a CD, DVD or an online version to the Art & Design department for a review.

All art majors, following the freshman year or the completion of two semesters, are assessed for their interest in the visual arts and their competency in studio art courses by the department. Art majors also meet regularly with their advisor to discuss academic and career planning.

For the student who is seeking a career in the visual arts, the department provides the direction and experiences that lead to a unique skill set. Some students will go directly into the work force following graduation, while others will continue their study in the visual arts pursuing a M.A. or M.F.A. degree.

Please contact the Art & Design department chairperson if you are in need of more information. We hope you will join us.
