Profile

Dr. Benbow joined the faculty at Shippensburg University in 1996 and joined the Social Work & Gerontology Department in 2006, where he has been teaching ever since. He continues to teach students about Social Work and include his previous experiences to help shape students' ideas of classroom teachings in practice settings. Prior to working at the university, Dr. Benbow was a Behavioral Specialist/Mobile Therapist at Stephens Center and The Meadows, the Director of Residential Treatment Services at Mountain Valley Center, the Resource & Intensive Case Management Supervisor at Dauphin County Case Management, a worker in Intensive Case Management at Franklin County MH/MR Case Management Unit and the Interim Act 101 Counselor and Interim Director for Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) at Shippensburg University.

He is a dedicated member to the International Association of Social Work Groups (IASWG) and the Alumni Association here at Shippensburg University. Dr. Benbow takes pride in his memberships to both organizations and seeks to promote understanding diversity and team building in everything he participates in. His professional interests include multicultural education, minority student retention and team building.
