When: Monday nights starting January 28 through May 6, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
Where: Dixon University Center in Harrisburg, PA
Course Structure
Fiction Writing will be split into two parts: First, an introductory “boot camp” will examine the fundamental building blocks of all stories using lecture, close reading of published work, discussion, and a host of creative exercises. Participants will receive feedback from classmates and the professor. The second half of the class will follow a Workshop model, with students submitting full original short stories (drawn from the boot camp materials), which will be offered to the group for an open conversation.
Together the class will explore, among other things, the inspiration behind literary fiction, various processes that lead to its creation, and the technical elements that contribute to its effects. Students will develop a greater appreciation and respect for stories, as well as a deepened sense of their importance in everyone’s life.
