National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)

Shippensburg University’s Office of Professional, Continuing, and Distance Education (PCDE) in conjunction with the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) provides teachers and education professionals the unique learning opportunity to enhance their expertise and deepen their understanding within science education – resulting in improved learning experiences for their students.

ExxonMobil Teachers Academy 

We encourage individuals to join us for this unique learning experience and earn one to three graduate credits and an official transcript from the university upon program completion. To enroll into the Academy, participants must have attended and completed NSTA ExxonMobil Teachers Academy. 

To earn credit from Ship for attending the Academy, register by the following dates:

  • Registration Deadline: September 13, 2017
  • Completion Deadline: November 10, 2017  

Course Description 

EDU497 Special Topics: ExxonMobil Teachers Academy

This course provides teachers enrolled in the ExxonMobil Teachers Academy with the opportunity to apply the principles of the academy in their school and classes and to earn 1 to 3 graduate credits, based on the needs of individual participants, from Shippensburg University.  

Participants must submit their  "After-Academy Assignments" by November 10, 2017. Completed assignment will be graded on a letter grade system by instructor, Dr. Christine Royce. Participants who successfully complete the work will be awarded 1-3 graduate credits and an official transcript from Shippensburg University as evidence of completion.

Instructor Information

Dr. Christine Anne Royce is a Professor in the Teacher Education Department and co-director for the MAT in STEM Education program at Shippensburg University. She is the co-author of  the NSTA Press Book titled: Teaching Science Through Trade Books, which is related to one of her more familiar roles as the co-editor/author for the ”Teaching Through Trade Books Column” in Science and Children.  She has served as the NSTA Professional Development Division Director (09-12); District IV Director (06-09); NSELA Treasurer (11-present). She is an Educator Astrophysics Ambassador for NASA Education and Public Outreach program coordinated by Sonoma State University. She currently is the Executive Secretary for PSTA where she served in the presidential chain on two separate occasions. 

She received her Ed.D in Science Education from Temple University; and is the recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science; and the PAC-TE Teacher Educator of the Year Award among other recognitions. She was part of the NSTA Delegation to Shanghai China in 2010 as part of the first US-Sino Forum on Science and Education.

To start the registration and payment process, follow these steps: 

  1. Complete CEU / Credit interest form 
  2. Once we've received your interest form, you will be sent an email that provides directions to complete Shippensburg University's non-degree application form, pay the $15 application fee, and activate your Shippensburg University email account.
  3. Once your non-degree application is received and processed, you will register you for the class and receive your bill and payment information via your Shippensburg University email account.
