Sylvia Rivera Leadership Series

This program ended in December 2022. For information about The Sylvia Rivera Leadership Series, contact the PAGE Center.

The Sylvia Rivera Leadership Series is a queer/trans transformative justice leadership program. The program fosters students' leadership skills, specifically in regard to learning to work to dismantle cis-heterosexism and racism as they intersect. Transformative justice is intentionally intersectional and aimed at eliminating the root causes of oppression.

Students meet with invited speakers to discuss obstacles they have faced in queer/trans/racial justice organizing, how to work around those obstacles, what accountability looks like, and how to engage in transformative justice work.

Students attend (for free) the LGBT Center of Central PA’s Queer & Trans Activist Leadership Summit conference, and learn from other activists across the state. After the conference, students meet with the project coordinator to debrief and to begin planning a series of advocacy and activism events and campaigns to occur in Franklin and Cumberland Counties and surrounding townships and boroughs.

The program runs January 2022-December 2022. There are 3 virtual meetings over the summer.

This program is made possible through funding from the Franklin County Community Fund, a regional foundation of The Fund for Empowering Communities.
