Shippensburg University and HACC recommit to preparing the workforce of the future
Shippensburg University president, Laurie A. Carter and John J. “Ski” Sygielski, Ed.D., president of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, today signed a comprehensive and enhanced articulation agreement that supports post-secondary educational opportunities that will carry students into 21st century careers. The agreement ensures seamless transfers of coursework for HACC students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees at Shippensburg University.
Shippensburg University and HACC first signed an agreement in 1985. It was updated in 1998. The new agreement strengthens educational opportunities for students in traditional transfer programs, and creates transferability from degree programs not historically considered transfer programs to better serve the workforce needs of the region and the commonwealth. Under the new agreement, students can also reverse transfer, meaning students who transfer to Shippensburg University before earning their associate degree at HACC can still be awarded the two-year degree after completing the requirements at Shippensburg University in the process of completing their bachelor’s degree.
“We are pleased to strengthen our relationship with HACC, and enhance it so that we remain flexible and responsive to the needs of our students and the region they will go on to serve,” said President Carter.
“Shippensburg University is one of the top transfer school destinations in our area for HACC graduates. This enhanced articulation agreement will afford these graduates additional educational opportunities to earn a bachelor’s degree and become even more competitive in our regional economy and beyond,” said Sygielski.
The revitalized agreement illustrates the commitment of Shippensburg University and HACC to the region’s students and its workforce, and to the economic vitality of Pennsylvania.
