The minor in Public Health at Shippensburg University prepares undergraduate students for a wide range of career opportunities in the field of public health and beyond. Public Health is the science of promoting health through evidence-based social policy, community organization and support, and informed individual choices. This program emphasizes knowledge and skills related to the social organization of health, drawing upon the social sciences and complimenting this approach by building health expertise across fields. This program allows students to develop skills that can be used in the ever-expanding public health field.

In Shippensburg University’s interdisciplinary Public Health Minor, students will:  

  • PREPARE for a vibrant job market in health-related occupations.
  • ACCESS knowledge from across experts across disciplines.
  • APPLY skills in the classroom and through worksite internships.
  • ENRICH communities by improving health and wellbeing.

Career Pathways

Public Health leads to a wide variety of job opportunities and career paths. These include careers in medicine, pharmaceuticals, management/leadership, local and state government, social service, academic/research, and many other disciplines. Example careers:

  • Management/Leadership: Program Coordinator, Medical and Health Services Managers
  • State and Local government: Health Education Specialists, Counselor, Epidemiologist 
  • Administrative: Assistant for Health Board, Analyst for Social Security Administration, Discharge Planner
  • Others: Healthcare Social Workers, Community Health Workers
