Public Services focuses on the daily functions of government. The Bachelor of Science in Public Service provides you with the professional skills for careers in government and other public sector agencies. This major also puts you in a great position to prepare for law school or pursue a graduate degree in public administration.

Curriculum for this major emphasizes developing professional and analytical skills. Core courses focus on:

  • State and local government
  • Public policy analysis
  • Budgeting and financial management
  • Personnel administration
  • Research methods

You will also take electives, allowing you to pursue your unique interests. The Undergraduate Catalog provides specific course details.

Your classroom experience is complemented by field trips, in-class simulations, nationally-known speakers and job shadowing.

Internships are also strongly encouraged. Our students have interned with:

  • United States senators and representatives
  • Members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly
  • Local, state and national government agencies
  • Not-for-profit organizations

Students also have the opportunity to get involved with Pi Alpha Alpha, the national public administration honor society.
