The Graduate Writing Center

Our Mission

The Shippensburg University Graduate Writing Center is committed to empowering graduate students as they become effective and confident communicators. We foster these skills through collaborative, conversational writing consultations, by providing an array of writing resources, and by promoting graduate writers’ scholarship.

Consultation Information

We offer three types of consultations to meet your meeting preference and schedule. These three options offer you flexibility and the opportunity to select a meeting that suits your learning style:

  • In-Person Consultations are held in the Graduate Writing Center office, located in Mowrey Hall room 137. Masks must be properly worn during the session and all in-person consultations will last 60 minutes. Writers should send their paper at least one hour before your appointment time.
  • Synchronous consultations occur in real-time via ZOOM Video Conferencing. To use this option, you must have internet access and a computer equipped with a microphone and camera. You will also need to send your paper, assignment description, and other relevant information to your consultant at least one hour before your appointment time. Instructions for ZOOM Video Conferencing are available here.
  • Asynchronous consultations do not require you to use ZOOM. As with a synchronous appointment, you will need to send your paper, assignment description, and other relevant information to your consultant at least one hour before your appointment time. Within 24 hours, your consultant will return your draft with written comments and send a recorded video to explain feedback and your next steps for revision.

Emily Hegedus, Graduate Writing Consultant

B.S. Geoenvironmental Studies 2021, Shippensburg University

M.S. Geoenvironmental Science & Sustainability 2023, Shippensburg University

Hello! I’m Emily. I recently graduated from Ship with an undergraduate degree in Geoenvironmental Science, and I liked it so much that I am back to earn my master’s degree in the same program. My program requires writing a lot of technical reports and research papers, so my specialty is in writing and editing science-based assignments. However, I am interested in many subjects, and I am excited to read assignments across a variety of disciplines. In my personal life, I like reading, hiking, painting, exploring, and anything involving plants, rocks, mushrooms, or wildlife…you can see why I am a Geoenvironmental major. I look forward to getting to know my fellow graduate students and their papers, so sign up for a consultation today!
