Housing Selection Instructions

Jump to Footer

Please refer to the sections below to learn more about the room selection process for new incoming, returning students, and graduate students. Room types are offered first come first served. All room types are offered to first-year students except communal singles. The room type you choose will affect your cost per semester, so it is important to review the various layouts before selecting a room. While residence halls are co-ed, individual suites/rooms are single gender.  Gender inclusive housing is available by request.

New Incoming Students (First Year and Transfer)

Incoming students will complete the housing agreement and pay the $200 deposit in the admission's portal first.

Approximately 24 hours after paying the deposit, students will receive an email with more instructions on finding roommates and choosing a room. Students will use the MyHousing portal within MyShip to complete their housing selection.

Please note: When a student chooses a room, they are selecting a space for themselves only – they are not holding the remaining bed spaces offline. All bed spaces are first come, first serve and unselected beds will remain available to other students to select throughout the room selection process.

Room selection will be open from November 2025 until May 29, 2026. Beginning June 1, students will be assigned to rooms based on preferences and availability of rooms.

Current Students Returning in Fall 2027

The room selection process for students returning to campus in the fall will follow the timeline below.

  • March 11 at 9 a.m.: Housing Agreements become available in the MyHousing portal in myShip Experience for current residential students. There is no deposit due.
  • March 11: Students may begin mutually matching with roommates in the MyHousing portal.
  • April 8 at 12 p.m.: Deadline to sign the housing agreement for priority room selection. Students who sign after this time will select a room during open housing selection.
  • April 9: Room selection process entry times posted for students in the priority room selection process.
  • April 15 at 9 a.m.: Returning student room selection begins. Students in priority selection groups will gain entry to the process in 15-minute increments, based on their assigned time.
  • April 16 at 9 a.m.: Open housing selection begins for students that signed their housing agreement after the priority deadline.
  • April 17 at 9 a.m.: “Must fill” suite limiter removed; all remaining housing available for selection.
  • May 29 at 4 p.m.: Room selection ends. Any students who have not yet chosen a room will be assigned.

Students will receive information and reminders via their Ship email. Students must have a signed housing agreement to match with roommates and select a room. Roommates must be mutually matched to select a room together; if your request is highlighted yellow, it has not been accepted by all parties.

Current off campus students who would like to live on campus for next year should email Housing@ship.edu to gain access to the agreement and selection process.

The Housing Agreement cancellation deadline for students that are not required to live on campus in the 2026-2027 academic year is June 1, 2026. Please refer to the Two-Year Housing Requirement policy before making decisions about off campus housing.

Graduate Students (New and Returning)

Incoming graduate students can complete the housing agreement in the Admissions portal and current graduate students can sign the housing agreement in the MyHousing portal for 2026-2027.  The Housing Office will make graduate student assignments in Mowrey Hall and post the information on the MyHousing portal.
