SCRC Summer Learning Program 2024

The Shippensburg Community Resource Coalition is a collaborative effort to provide quality social services and youth programs that are accessible, safe, and honor the dignity of each person. This work includes a reduction in risk factors related to youth substance use and social, emotional, and physical health in order to increase youth resiliency. Our goal is to help community members reach their full potential.

We work to fulfill our mission in the following ways:

  • Working with existing programs in surrounding communities to encourage them to provide services in Shippensburg
  • Regularly assessing community needs and resources
  • Creating new services as necessary
  • Partnering with other community programs to strengthen our collective efforts

The SCRC is a Shippensburg University Center For Excellence and serves as a "learning lab" for the university. Students, faculty, and staff are involved in our work and have initiated many of our programs and services. We also provide a bridge for building community-university relationships. Whether you are on or off campus, contact us with your questions and ideas!

Shippensburg Food Resources

Do you need food assistance? The following resources are available to you for free or at reduced cost. Thank you to all the churches and organizations that continue to provide food for our community!

Community Meals

Community meals are FREE and you do not need to register or RSVP. Just show up! Meals are first come, first served. While the churches try to make enough food to feed everyone, due to the increase in participants, churches are doing their best to meet the need. Please be understanding about changes or smaller meals as they try to serve everyone.

Additional Programs and Services

Grey Matter is a free, six-week school-based prevention program for Shippensburg Area Senior High School (SASHS) and eight-week for Middle School (SAMS) students showing a lack of motivation, sadness, or irritability. Group sessions include building group trust, increasing participant involvement in fun activities, learning and practicing new ways of thinking, and developing plans to respond to life stressors.  Groups are offered during the school day during student's flex period. If your child(ren) is in 8th grade, have them talk to Mrs. Curtis at SAMS and Mrs. Carbaugh for 9th -12th graders to sign up for the group.

Shippensburg Community Resource Coalition is resuming its Youth Advisory Council (YAC), a group of middle school students to help make decisions related to youth resiliency and reducing youth substance use. To learn more about this program, please contact us at coordinator-scrc@shipresources.org

This program is for students in the Shippensburg Area Middle School and High School having difficulty in the school setting.  The students meet once a week to work on different skills such as communication and conflict resolution. School counselors and/or teachers can refer students to the program, both the student and the parents have to agree and give permission for the student to participate. To learn more, email coordinator-scrc@shipresources.org

Leaders-in-Training Camp helps students develop the essential skills that create leaders such as positive peer role modeling, problem-solving skills, active listening skills, and interpersonal management skills.

It is a 4 day camp usually a week after school ends for the year. Youth who live in the Shippensburg Area School District entering 6-12 grade are able to attend. There is a $50 camp fee, but a fee waiver is available. Breakfast and lunch are provided for the youth.

The #BeKind movement brings awareness of the importance of kindness in everyone’s lives during November 10th through 16th. #ShipBeKind encourages the Shippensburg residents to carry out acts of kindness in our community. For more information, visit this page.

Resource Guide

Since the town of Shippensburg is located in both Cumberland County and Franklin County, this can lead to confusion about how and where to access social services. County social services are available in the neighboring towns of Carlisle and Chambersburg.

Both counties have their own guides to social services so this guide focuses on the services that are available within the Shippensburg Area School District boundaries.
