International Studies B.A. Awarded Fulbright Scholarship
Suphawat Nambuppha ’20 was awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) through the Fulbright US Student Program for Germany during the 2021-2022 academic year. Having majored in International Studies, with a minor in German studies, Nambuppha is ready for the exciting year ahead. The ETA places Fulbrighters in classrooms abroad to assist local English teachers and serve as cultural ambassadors. Shippensburg is the PASSHE leader in Student Fulbrights with 6 since 2013.
Dr. Matthew Shupp named to Fulbright Specialist Roster
Matthew R. Shupp, associate professor of Counseling, received a recommendation from the U.S. Department of State and World Learning for candidacy on the Fulbright Specialist Roster. As a candidate on the roster, Shupp is eligible for placement on a variety of projects designed by host institutions in over 150 countries.
Labor of Love in Service Learning
Six years in the making, a village on a small, remote island in Haiti now has access to quality medical care thanks to the efforts of Global Languages & Cultures and International Studies faculty—the late Agnes Ragone and Blandine Mitaut—and their students. In spring 2020, their service-learning project opened a fully staffed medical clinic in Gros-Mangles, Haiti bringing the dream of the Gros Mangles and Shippensburg communities to reality.

SU Faculty Selected as Fullbright Scholar Award Recipient
Dr. Timothy Hawkins, Professor of Geography and Earth Science, has been awarded a Fullbright U.S. Scholar Program 2020-2021 Grant for Barbados. The program was suspended in Fall 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he received good news that he has been cleared to travel to Barbados in January 2021.
International Studies Major received a TAPIF Award
An international studies major Alexx Purcell received the Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF) award, managed by the France Education International (an agency of the French Ministry of Education) for the 2020-2021 academic year. She will teach English at the French school Académie de Dijon at the secondary school level.
International Studies Major Awarded Freeman-Asia Scholarship
Isabel Weaver, an international studies major, was awarded a prestigious Freeman-Asia scholarship to study abroad in China during the spring 2020 semester. She has decline the award because her study abroad plans have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She will be reapplying in Spring 2021. We wish her luck with the new application and future study in China.
