Hazing Prevention
At Shippensburg University, we are committed to actively preventing hazing and fostering a safe, healthy, and respectful campus community. While our prevention efforts take place year-round, we place particular focus during times when students are most likely to join campus organizations.
Our approach to hazing prevention is informed by data—including trends and insights from campus reporting and the National College Student Bystander Intervention Study™ (NCSBIS), which we’ve previously administered.
Examples of past prevention initiatives at Ship include:
- Hazing Prevention Week tables, programs, and activities
- Campus-wide messaging with information and resources
- An Evening with Evelyn & Jim Piazza
- Documentary screening and discussions - recent films include The Gordie Center's Haze and PBS' Hazing
- Group specific and new-member trainings for a wide-array of student organizations
- Faculty and staff awareness training
