French Certificate

A French certificate can help your resume stand out and it only requires 12 credits. Learning French helps you communicate more effectively, providing more opportunities in a diverse job market.

You will learn interpersonal communication, interpretive listening, interpretive reading as well as oral and written presentations in French. In addition, you will learn about the French and Francophone cultures including the products, practices and perspectives. Critical thinking, problem solving and cultural awareness are also other student learning outcomes of the program. You would attain an Intermediate-Low level minimum in oral and written skills.

Learning French prepares you for a diverse job market. This program is a great asset for students seeking careers in such fields as:

• Services (health, international organizations, volunteering)
• Industry (import/export, marketing and advertising, overseas investments)
• Government (foreign service, department of state, FBI, CIA, homeland security)

The focus is on oral proficiency. Thus, the program adheres to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards. Our classes are small so we can provide students with a truly one-on-one learning experience.

While pursuing a French certificate, you may also consider joining the French Club, which allows you to practice the French language and learn more about the cultures from the French-speaking world. Every semester, there are multicultural events, fundraisers and visits to events related to the French-speaking world.

Study abroad is highly recommended.
