Shippensburg Community Resource Coalition (SCRC)
Social Work

The Shippensburg Community Resource Coalition is a collaborative effort to provide quality social services and youth programs that are accessible, safe, and honor the dignity of each person. The SCRC is a Shippensburg University Center For Excellence and serves as a "learning lab" for the university. Students, faculty, and staff are involved in our work and have initiated many of our programs and services.

Growing Edges
Counseling

Growing Edges Community Counseling Clinic is a non-profit educational and counseling clinic of Shippensburg University’s Department of Counseling and College Student Personnel. The program, the only one of its kind in the State System, provides no cost time-limit counseling services to individuals, couples, and families in the community who may not have access to counseling, while providing our graduate students in the program the opportunity to get field training.

Grace B. Luhrs University Elementary School (GBLUES)
Teacher Education

As a laboratory school attached to the university's College of Education and Human Services, Luhrs provides a setting for university students from many majors to observe and participate in elementary school activities. In conjunction with the adjacent Child and Family Center, university students majoring in education, early childhood, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, social work and counseling can engage in the study of children from ages one to eleven. University students can observe classes from observation booths, tutor students in core content areas of reading and math, or participate in whole-class activities.

Reserve Officers Training Program (ROTC)
Military Science

Located in the heart of the Shippensburg University campus, the Raider Battalion ROTC program includes students from Shippensburg University, Wilson College, and Penn State Mont Alto. It offers college students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills as they pursue their education in one of the university's major fields of study. Basic military skills are taught throughout the curriculum. All activities, including developmental counseling, are designed to build self-confidence and character.

Ship SAILS
Special Education

The purpose of the Ship SAILS program is to provide Big Spring High School students with disabilities ages 18-21 years the opportunity to continue their education and work experience in a way that supports the transition skills of vocational training, functional academics, social and communication skills, and self-advocacy in an environment that more closely aligns with life after high school. Students work at assigned worksites overseen by both school district and university undergraduate student job coaches. Students participate in inclusive instruction in collaboration with Shippensburg university undergraduate student peer mentors in a university classroom. And, students in the SAILS program participate in a variety of inclusive social activities on campus.

HIRE ME Program
Special Education

HIRE ME (Helping Individuals Reach Employment Milestones Everyday) is a collaboration between Big Spring and Shippensburg School Districts and the Special Education program at Shippensburg University. The purpose of HIRE ME is to prepare students with disabilities (SWD) for the transition into competitive employment by practicing hard and soft work skills. The districts bring SWD to Shippensburg University to work at several practice work sites. University students supervise as the SWD as their job coach while they are working.

Hands-On Experiences Arts and Sciences

SUTV Studio and Live Truck and WSYC
Communication, Journalism and Media

As part of the Communication, Journalism and Media Department, students in the broadcast media production concentration use industry standard production and field equipment for live and pre-recorded programs. Students will learn and perform in roles including talent, producer, director, camera and audio operator, videographer, editor, and graphics creation. Content can be streamed live or produced for distribution using various social media platforms including Facebook Live, Instagram and twitter.

Fashion Archives and Museum
History and Philosophy

The Fashion Archives and Museum of Shippensburg University is a unique part of the university community. With a donation-driven collection of 15,000 items, the archives and museum provides hands-on learning, volunteering and internship opportunities for students, exhibits that highlight the beauty and design of historic fashions and textiles, and a commitment to knowledge, appreciation and preservation of historic dress.

Baja SAE Project
Engineering

Students at Shippensburg University have the opportunity to participate in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) annual international competition. Teams of mostly mechanical engineering students design, construct, and weld BAJA buggies and compete against 80 to 90 other teams from schools from around the world. This competition provides them with real-world experience using engineering concepts that they learn at Ship. Over the course of a year, they modify their designs and make improvements to their BAJA buggy.

Charles H. Diller Jr. Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation at the John L. Grove College of Business

The Diller Center, including the Milton K. Morgan III Makerspace, develops both the skill set and the entrepreneurial mind set of students at Shippensburg University to recognize and capitalize on business opportunities. The Milton K. Morgan III Makerspace offers a hands- on, innovative learning space for Shippensburg University students for prototype creation and testing.
