Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Tom C. Ormond is the current provost of Shippensburg University. He has occupied a variety of administrative positions that demonstrate a steady and systematic leadership progression from department chair, director of academic planning and resources, academic dean, senior associate provost and director of graduate studies and provost and vice president for academic affairs.
The Provost's Office provides leadership and maintains direct administrative responsibility for educational programming including curricular, budgetary, academic personnel matters and academic planning. The Provost's Office is responsible for the support of the university's governance system and for ensuring compliance with policies of the State System and of accrediting agencies.

The provost participates in the development and implementation of institutional policies through membership in the President's Executive Management Team and Cabinet and through membership in the University Forum and the Planning and Budget Council. The provost is also a management representative and co-chair of the Faculty-Management committee, which is responsible for implementing the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement between the Commonwealth and the bargaining agent for faculty.
The Provost's Office works in close collaboration with the Vice President for Enrollment Management, Student Success and Student Services on the integration of co-curricular activities with the academic mission; Chief External Affairs Officer; Chief Strategy Officer who has responsibilities for Information Services and institutional assessment; and with the Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance on budget and facilities issues.

Dr. Tom C. Ormond’s experiences present a progressive flow through higher education at private (Ithaca College) and public universities (Sonoma State CA; Lock Haven University, PA; Georgia College and State University, GA; Darton State College, GA, and University of North Georgia), two of which were unionized (Sonoma State and Lock Haven), two COPLAC (Sonoma State and Georgia College), and one with an access mission (Darton State College). Since completing his doctoral degree from The Ohio State University, Dr. Ormond has successfully moved through the professorial ranks from assistant to tenured full professor in the area of Physical Education – Teacher Education. Dr. Ormond is a native New Zealander and spent six years teaching at the intermediate school level.
