The Early Alert Program partners with faculty, staff, and campus resources to provide proactive, coordinated outreach to students experiencing academic, personal, or financial challenges. By connecting students to timely support, the program strengthens retention, promotes equity in access to resources, and helps students reach their full potential.
Academic Red Flags: Submit an Early Alert
Faculty and Staff may submit an early alert if they notice the following:
Do you have a student with an academic concern?
Do Not Use In Case of Emergency
The Early Alert system is NOT monitored 24/7.
In the event of a life-threatening emergency, please contact 911 and/or SU Campus Police for immediate assistance. If you are aware that a student may have experienced discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct on campus please consider contacting the Title IX Office.
Additional Referral Services
While there are many reasons to issue an Early Alert, in some instances, an Early Alert may not be the best referral for a student.
Ship Cares
If a student is struggling with academic, physical, and/or emotional challenges (or a combination), consider a Ship Cares referral instead. In general, any behavior that disrupts the mission or learning environment of the University or causes concern for a student's wellbeing.
Counseling Center
if a student appears to be struggling with emotional or mental distress, consider a referral to the Counseling Center.
The Learning Center
if a student is struggling with and assignment in a course, or with a specific course, refer them to The Learning Center.
