Dr. Carol Wellington

decorativeCarol Wellington is a professor of Software Engineering.  She brings years of industry experience into the classroom to connect academia with industry.
Her interests span the discipline.  Her industry experience was ten years in operating systems development on large scale systems (the ones that run banking and the stock market) and real-time embedded systems (telecommunications transmission equipment).

Her PhD is from North Carolina State University and involved research was in Artificial Intelligence – specifically Predictive Toxicology where she used AI to predict whether chemicals would cause cancer in rodents.  Since coming to Ship, she and her students have built games, systems to predict the stock market, assistive technology, among other things.  Currently her students are building an Augmented Reality game to connect students to life at Ship.

Dr. Wellington’s primary goal is providing the best experience for her students.  That requires being at the forefront of the technology wave and the teaching wave.  You can see her teaching style on her YouTube channel.  Most recently, she has been building videos on Software Engineering in Rust.
