Required (3 Credits):
- INTL 200 - Introduction to International Studies Concepts and Methods or an approved substitute.
Majors, minors, and students adding a Certificate in a second world area must consult with International Studies to choose an appropriate substitute course and complete an Exception Form.
Electives (9 Credits):
The remaining three courses must concentrate on one world area (Africa & Middle East, Asia, Europe, or Latin America). Two of the elective courses must be at the 300-level or higher.

- INTL 383 - Selected Topics in International Studies Africa & Middle East Studies
- INTL 393 - International Studies Internship - African & Middle Eastern Studies
No courses may be double-counted between a Certificate and the International Studies major or minor, or a second Certificate in another world area. A complete list of approved courses is available on the International Studies website www.ship.edu/ism. Study abroad and advanced language study are strongly encouraged and may satisfy elective credit.
