The Reserve Officer Training Corps is an academic program offering students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills as they pursue their education in one of Shippensburg University's major fields of study. The Raider Battalion is the ROTC program at Ship. It also includes students from Wilson College and Penn State Mont Alto.
At its core, ROTC is a leadership program. Basic military skills are taught throughout the curriculum. All activities, including developmental counseling, are designed to build self-confidence and character.
Students from all fields of study are welcome. Those who complete the program earn a commission as a United States Army officer in one of 17 fields. These fields range from aviation to logistics. You may serve on active duty or in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard. Most newly commissioned second lieutenants begin their careers as the leader of a platoon consisting of approximately 30 enlisted soldiers.
Cadets in our program have been recognized as some of the best in the nation.
As a part of the Raider Battalion, you will take part in physical fitness training three days a week as well as a lab each week. You will also go on field training exercises. There are also service opportunities and social events throughout your course of study.
Students who continue into the third year will attend a summer camp and have opportunities for advanced military training such as Airborne School or Air Assault School.
Scholarship opportunities are available for those who qualify.
