Communications and Marketing

The Office of University Communications and Marketing (UCM), part of the Division of Enrollment Management, is responsible for developing marketing and communication strategies and solutions as well as providing a variety of internal and external communications that support the university's mission and brand.

Who We Are

Media Relations

Media Relations is a news and information resource for local, national and international media outlets. Sharing timely, topical story ideas with all forms of media–from print to podcast–is a top priority for the media relations person. By monitoring and forecasting news trends and staying on top of media needs, journalists get story ideas audiences will find compelling, and experts who provide context and viewpoints on topics.

Sports Media and Information 

The Sports Media & Information Office records all statistical information for its athletes while also documenting photos procured from games, and editorial story content about all of the teams at Shippensburg. The staff is also in charge of updating the Athletics website and social media channels with new content including athlete spotlights and news and events.

Social Media

The Shippensburg social media guidelines offer support for anyone starting or maintaining a social media presence on behalf of the University.

Individuals who manage social media on behalf of Shippensburg University, departments, groups, organizations or centers are responsible for following all normal expectations for professional behavior. Remember that what you post on social media, even if you later delete it, can be stored and shared with millions of people and ultimately reflects on the University.

The Office of Communications and Marketing can provide support to faculty, staff and students who are considering establishing or are already managing a social media presence affiliated with the University. 

We can help by:

  • Recommending a social media strategy.
  • Identifying your audience.
  • Selecting the appropriate platform or platforms to execute your plan.
  • Learning the “do's and don’ts” of various social media platforms.
  • Promoting your social media presence.

Video Production

Our office produces high-quality video productions exclusively for student recruitment and university promotion. We require a three-day minimum notice to book a video shoot. Videos take approximately 6-8 weeks to record, edit and distribute. If we can accommodate your request, we will schedule an appointment to meet and discuss the video and schedule the shoot. 

Program Profile

These videos generally highlight a program (this can include a class, major or any initiative). Videos are not scripted but instead involve combining interview soundbites and voice over narration gathered from interview material.

Student/Faculty Profile

 Videos generally highlight individual achievements, perspectives, or newsworthy accomplishments. Videos are not scripted but instead involve combining interview soundbites and voice over narration gathered from interview material.

Voice Over Only

Voice over videos include a voice recording, but the speaker is not on camera at any point in the video. Instead any combination of video or imagery and graphics can be used to convey the message. The marketing department will typically write and record the voice track.
