Scholarship Opportunities for Veterans

When your GI Bill, Federal Aid, and other resources aren't enough to cover the costs of tuition you can always apply for scholarships. In addition to any scholarships you've already earned there are military specific scholarships in our network for which you're encouraged to apply.

Active Duty/Veterans Scholarships

General scholarships and military affiliated scholarships are available to students at Shippensburg University. For more information regarding general scholarships please visit our scholarships page.

Internal Scholarships - Shippensburg University 

The Richard A. Cranney Sr. Veterans Award: $1,700 Scholarship

Recipients of this four-year award must be incoming freshmen, with demonstrated financial need, intending to pursue a degree in any major at Shippensburg University. Recipients must qualify in one of the following categories:

  • Student who is an honorably discharged veteran or active duty service person
  • Student who is serving, or has served in the National Guard
  • Student who is serving, or has served in the Reserves

The applicants should demonstrate good character and citizenship. This award will be conferred without unlawful discrimination.

Berkman Veteran Scholarship

The Berkman Foundation was founded by Harold W. Berkman and his wife, Muriel, to pursue their longstanding dedication and commitment to higher education in the United States in preparing future business leaders and promoting the growth of knowledge into effective business and administration. In addition to preparing future business leaders, the Foundation aims to recognize particularly the achievements of the men and women who have honorably served this country in military service.

Since 2014, the Foundation has awarded almost 200 $1,000 scholarships to veterans advancing their education. One of the veteran recipients each year receives the $2,000 General Albin F. Irzyk Veteran Scholarship.

Eligibility requirements:

  • U.S. citizen
  • Student veteran majoring in ANY discipline
  • Honorable discharge as indicated on DD Form 214 (must submit with application)

While ALL student veterans are encouraged to apply, those with the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB), Combat Action Badge (CAB), or Purple Heart are strongly encouraged to apply.

Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) Education Foundation

Awarded to Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard personnel and their families.

Military Order of the Purple Heart Scholarship

Awarded to recipients of a Purple Heart who are also a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, or their spouse, child, step-child, adopted child, or grandchild. Spouses, widows and direct lineal descendants of Purple Heart recipients listed as killed-in-action or died of wounds may also be eligible.

Tailhook Educational Foundation (TEF)

Awarded to children/grandchildren of individuals who are serving or have ever served as a Naval Aviator, Naval Flight Officer, or Naval Air-crewman (U.S. Navy/U.S. Marine Corps/ U.S. Coast Guard) as well as individuals who have ever served on board a U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier in the ship’s company or the Air Wing.

Tillman Military Scholarship

Awarded to active-duty service members, veterans and military spouses who are committed to a life of service in and out of uniform.

Veterans United Foundation

Awarded to active duty service members, veterans, surviving spouses or children of fallen service members as well as active duty and veteran dependents.

Memorial Tribute Scholarship

Awarded to US Military personnel who have transitioned from Active Duty to reserve or civilian status within the past 3 years. Additional scholarships are available for members of Marines’ Memorial Association.

The Hammer Family Scholarship

Awarded to US Military Veterans who wish to study in the fields of Math, Statistics, Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering. Additional scholarships are available for members of Marines’ Memorial Association.

Student Veterans of America

Together with corporate partners, SVA offers a number of scholarships throughout the academic year.

AMVETS National Scholarship Program

Financially assist veterans and dependents who have exhausted government aid, or who might not otherwise have the financial means to continue their education. Annually awarded to veterans/active military, their sons, daughters or grandchildren. Children and grandchildren of deceased veterans eligible.

Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) Scholarships

For members of the AAAA, and the spouses, unmarried siblings, unmarried children, and unmarried grandchildren of current and deceased AAAA members.

Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association

Awarded to deserving students to help them reach their educational and professional goals. Annual awards of up to $5,000 to individuals pursuing college and graduate degrees.

Levi Rodgers Scholarship

The Levi Rodgers Scholarship by VA Loan Network provides financial support and educational opportunities to Veterans and their families who are committed to furthering their academic and career goals. Established to honor the contributions and sacrifices of our Military community, this quarterly scholarship offers a $500 award to assist with educational expenses.

Dr. Aurelio M Caccomo Family Foundation Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to Veterans, including members of the National Guard and Reserves, who are seeking new skills in order to be competitive in the job market.

Horatio Alger Military Veterans Scholarship

Awarded to veterans who have served under the United States Military Operation in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan or Operation Iraqi Freedom beginning Sept. 11, 2001 or later.

Sports Clips Help a Hero Scholarship

Awarded to retired, honorably discharged, or Active Duty military, or member of the National Guard or reserve; separated with or currently hold an E-5 or below rank; and demonstrate financial need.
