George McElwee ’98

George McElwee ’98 is founder and president of The Reserve Component, a Washington, D.C.-based federal government relations and strategic consulting firm. He has more than 25 years of experience in public policy, government affairs, and public service, advising public, nonprofit, and private-sector organizations on federal advocacy, legislative strategy, and government relations.
McElwee previously represented the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Washington and served nearly a decade as chief of staff to U.S. Representative Charlie Dent. Earlier in his career, he held government affairs positions with the Organization for International Investment and the American Financial Services Association and began his public service career on the staff of U.S. Senator Rick Santorum. He has also served for more than 17 years as an officer in the United States Navy Reserve.
A 1998 Shippensburg University graduate with a bachelor's degree in political science, McElwee also earned a master's degree in strategic security studies from the National Defense University. He joined the Shippensburg University Council of Trustees in 2020 and currently serves as Chair.
