ShipRec Access and Membership Rates

Undergraduate students enrolled in on-campus summer classes pay a Rec Fee and are considered members of ShipRec. (*Exclusions may apply. Student should verify rec fee is included on university bill.)

Graduate students enrolled in summer classes may choose to pay rates listed below, or may contact Student Accounts to add the Rec fee to university bill.

  • Summer membership (May 18 - Aug 7): $100 (prorated from date of purchase)
  • Punch Card: $50 (10 visits - expires 1 year from date of purchase)
  • Weekly Pass: $15 (expires 7 days from date of purchase)
  • Visit: $5
  • Guest Pass: $5 (Valid for one entry.) Sponsor must present SU ID or department-issued Rec tag and have a current membership pass at time of purchase. Guest must present a valid photo ID. Sponsor must remain with the guest(s) at all times, and assumes responsibility for the actions of the guest(s). Equipment check-out is available to sponsors only. Guests are permitted to participate in group fitness classes. Participation in other department-sponsored programming such as club sports or intramural activities is prohibited. ShipRec members may sponsor up to two guests at one time.

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students
  • Currently employed SU Faculty and Staff members
  • SU Alumni as defined by SU Alumni Relations Office
  • SU Retirees as defined by SU Human Resources
  • SU Donors as defined by the SU Foundation
  • SU Trustees 

Payment of a Rec fee through student accounts or purchase of a membership option is required. 

Undergraduate students enrolled in on-campus classes pay a Rec Fee and are considered members of ShipRec. Exclusions may apply (dual-enrollment students). See university bill to verify Rec fee is included.

Graduate students are not charged the Rec fee unless requested at Student Accounts. Graduate students may alternatively choose to purchase a membership option at the ShipRec entrance desk. 

Spouse/partner and/or dependent(s) of the above individuals may be sponsored as a guest only. Guest pass policies apply.

Dual-enrollment students may be sponsored as a guest of an adult eligible for membership privileges.

Alumni, retirees, donors, and trustees must pre-register for eligibility verification prior to first date of membership purchase. Please submit request using the following link. Allow 5-7 business days for processing: REC FACILITY ELIGIBILITY FORM

  • Use of campus recreation facilities is voluntary and considered at your own risk.
  • Eligible members are required to present a valid SU ID or department-issued Rec tag.  
  • Minors between the ages of 10–17 may be sponsored as a guest. Sponsor must be an adult eligible for membership privileges. Guests under the age of 16 are not required to present photo ID.
  • Individuals must be 14+ to use cardio and strength equipment.
  • Alumni - A campus parking pass is available for $5 from the department if requested (only alumni not currently enrolled are eligible):  ALUMNI PARKING TAG REQUEST FORM

Group Fitness

The Department of Recreation offers group fitness classes designed to provide participants with a variety of activity choices to meet all interests and fitness levels.

Group Fitness Classes currently offered include Pilates with Nora, Spin for Beginners, Spinergy, Spin and Sculpt.

ShipRec Policies

  • Jeans, pants or shorts with rivets or zippers, and belts are not permitted.
  • Gym bags backpacks, and purses are not allowed in workout areas. Bags must be stored in cubbies, day lockers (require a quarter) or in a locker room locker (bring your own lock).  Locker rentals are available at the ShipRec entrance desk for $10 per semester (lock will be provided).
  • Individuals are required to wear athletic shoes. No open-toe or non-athletic shoes are permitted.
  • No glass bottles or open containers are permitted. Only plastic bottles and closed containers are allowed.

  • Track is for exclusive use of walkers and runners.
  • Be alert for runners as you enter the track surface.
  • Store personal items in secure storage.
  • Non-marking, spike-free shoes are required.
  • Inside lane is a walking lane - 8.5 laps/mile.
  • Outside lane is a running lane - 8 laps/mile.
  • Please honor any posted directional signs. 

  • Reservations must be done in person at the ShipRec entry desk.
  • Players are limited to ONE participation period on the courts per day. Players are not permitted to sign-up for multiple slots.
  • Reservations may be made 1 day ahead of time. Weekend reservations may be made on Friday.
  • A reservation is released if the player(s) do not arrive within 5 minutes of the scheduled reservation time.
  • Non-marking shoes are required, and shoes not worn outside are preferred.

  • No gum, food, or beverage permitted.  Only water in a sealed container is permitted.
  • Store personal items in secure storage.
  • Attire should be free of rivets, snaps, and zippers.
  • Non-marking athletic footwear is required.
  • Reservation and class registration information is available at the entrance desk.
  • Drop-in use is permitted when the room is not in use.
  • ShipRec equipment may not be removed from the group fitness room.
  • Workout at your own fitness level.
  • Turn off electronic devices during class.
  • Instructors may limit class to pre-registered participants.
  • Audio visual equipment is managed by ShipRec staff.

  • ShipRec members are eligible to check-out equipment at the entrance desk at no charge. Guests are not permitted to check-out equipment.
  • All equipment check-out requires the presentation of a valid SU ID or membership card. The ID or membership card will remain at the entrance desk for the duration of check-out.
  • Any equipment reported as lost or damaged will be subject to a replacement fee.
  • Any student group or department hosting an event on campus, are welcome to request sports equipment to support the event.

  • Please visit events.ship.edu to submit a facility request.
  • Reservation Requests- Recognized student organizations may request space in recreational venues through the campus-wide scheduling system, EMS, by visiting events.ship.edu. The requestor should be an individual planning to be on site for the duration of requested activity. Instructions appear at the end of the Facilities page.
