Program Overview

This intensive program follows the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy curriculum, providing participants with practical experience in robotics integration, programming, and troubleshooting using Arduino-based platforms.

This 36-hour training program combines Software Foundations with Arduino and Robotics Integration with Arduino, equipping participants with the knowledge and confidence to understand robotic systems, develop control programs, integrate sensors and actuators, and solve real-world automation challenges.

By the end of the program, participants will have a solid foundation in robotics programming and integration, enabling them to contribute more effectively to automated processes, support robotics implementation initiatives, and enhance productivity within their organizations.

Curriculum

This hands-on training emphasizes practical application, allowing participants to work directly with Arduino hardware and robotics systems while completing exercises and projects that mirror real-world industrial scenarios.

This course introduces the programming concepts and software skills needed to develop and control robotic systems using Arduino. Participants learn fundamental coding principles, including variables, loops, conditionals, functions, and input/output operations, while gaining hands-on experience programming Arduino microcontrollers to interact with sensors and actuators.

Building on foundational programming skills, this course focuses on integrating hardware and software to create functional robotic systems. Participants learn how to connect and program sensors, motors, and other components, troubleshoot robotic systems, and apply automation concepts through hands-on projects that reflect real-world industrial applications.

Dr. Joao Dias

Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering

 
Dr. Joao P. Dias is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Shippensburg University’s Morgan School of Engineering, where he has been a dedicated faculty member since Fall 2019. He teaches a variety of core courses in the Mechanical Engineering program, including Engineering Graphics, Mechanics of Materials, Manufacturing Processes, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics & Heat Transfer, and Machine Design.  

Dr. Dias’s primary research interests lie in automotive engineering, robotics, 3-D printing, and the application of artificial intelligence to solve complex mechanical engineering problems. As a passionate educator, he is deeply committed to enhancing student learning through engaging hands-on activities and real-world engineering applications. 

In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Dias serves as the faculty advisor for the collegiate chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) at Shippensburg University and the Ship SAE BAJA team, fostering student involvement in automotive innovation and competition. He is also a certified Robotics Integration and Software Foundations instructor, a credential earned from the prestigious Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy.
