Our program accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) lead to employers actively pursuing our graduates for hire locally, statewide and nationally. Shippensburg’s bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and software engineering are accredited by ABET.
School of Engineering Majors
Computer Science, BS
The Computer Science degree is designed to provide as strong a foundation in Computer Science as possible, while still leaving some space for free electives. Students find solutions to difficult problems and implement them in a programming language; apply these problem solving and programming skills to problems in a wide range of domains such as Network Programming, AI, Video Game Programming, and interacting with professionals in the chosen domain to find solutions to problems and work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Computer Engineering, BS
The Computer Engineering program combines electrical engineering and computer science, with a focus on preparing students to design, build, and program complex systems. Students who have completed coursework in physics, calculus, and logic circuits advance into studies of microprocessors, embedded systems, and digital signal design.
Electrical Engineering, BS
The Electrical Engineering program provides a practical and in-depth education in electronics, communications, and energy. Students gain both theoretical knowledge and applied design skills, preparing them for a wide range of industries such as telecommunications, renewable energy, and automation.
Software Engineering, BS
Shippensburg’s Software Engineering program prepares students to develop and maintain large-scale software systems, combining computer science knowledge with a focus on software development. Unlike traditional computer science programs, it focuses on systematic processes such as designing, testing, and maintaining scalable software.
Civil Engineering, BS
The Civil Engineering program allows student engineers to design and maintain infrastructure that supports communities, such as bridges and roads to water treatment systems. Ship’s ABET-accredited program combines engineering principles with real-world experience. It is the only civil engineering degree offered in the Pennsylvania State System, offering students access to both an affordable and high-quality education.
Mechanical Engineering, BS
Mechanical Engineering is one of the most in-demand career paths. Ship’s ABET-accredited program equips students with skills in system design, thermodynamics, robotics, and manufacturing. Students gain hands-on experience using top-notch design tools like CAD/CAM, rapid prototyping, and process simulation.
Hands-On Opportunities
Baja SAE Project
Students at Shippensburg University have the opportunity to participate in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) annual international competition. Teams of mostly mechanical engineering students design, construct, and weld BAJA buggies and compete against 80 to 90 other teams from schools from around the world.
Nitterhouse Concrete Products
Nitterhouse donated the materials for senior captone project for civil engineering majors and began a collaboration on their project titled Conceptual Framework for Floating Concrete Applications: Prestressed FRP in Lightweight Structural Design and Optimization. Students wroked with a team at Nitterhouse prestressing the FRP, mixing and pouring concrete and preparing beams for strength testing. Having access to the Nitterhouse facility and equipment made their project possible.
Ship N’ Seek”, an augmented reality (AR) app
Ship N’ Seek serves as a digital guide and a scavenger hunt, allowing users to explore campus through the assistance of AR while collecting digital cards of Ship’s mascots at various landmarks on campus. Users can unlock special features as they visit certain locations, creating a rewarding and engaging way to explore Shippensburg University. The development of the app was led by a team of software engineering students under faculty guidance.

In addition to techincal resources provided to all Shippensburg University students, there is equipment that is only available to School of Engineering students. The majority of our labs are equipped with a keypad door lock so that students have access to the equipment outside of class.

About Milton and Doreen Morgan
Milton K. Morgan III graduated from Shippensburg State College in 1976 with Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Milt said of his time at Shippensburg, “I had the opportunity to grow and mature personally, while being exposed to many new ideas and subjects that I have found to be meaningful in both my personal and business lives. I was provided the benefit of self-discipline, a solid academic base, and the ability to creatively problem solve.” He believes that college years are a transformational time for students. He found that many of his thoughts and ideas were cultivated during his time at Shippensburg.
In 1980, Milt began working at J. Walter Miller Company, which was started in a one-car garage in Lancaster in 1887 by his great grandfather. The company grew into a major manufacturer of commercial brass and bronze castings, and in 1986, Milt was named president of the company. One of the major accomplishments during Milt’s presidency was that the company, through growth, was able to reduce its dependence on the fire protection industry from 98 percent to 30 percent of its production, while at the same time continuing to maintain its position in the industry as the largest producer of sand cast sprinkler heads in the country. He continued to expand the business by acquiring a machine shop and establishing a consumer products division prior to retiring in 2015.
Milt and his wife, Dory, were inspired to support Shippensburg University engineering students, “having spent 38 years in manufacturing, continuous improvement was always my focus, with process improvement and engineered solutions the vehicle driving that improvement. The desire to achieve perfection drives innovation towards a goal we will never achieve, but as we advance technologically, the demand for engineers in multiple disciplines explodes exponentially. Shippensburg University has taken a leadership position as the only Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education School offering a program with various engineering degrees. Dory and I are thrilled to have a role in advancing this program to the next level, the School of Engineering. A strong engineering program coupled with a little creative thinking is a powerful combination. We look forward to a bright future for Shippensburg University, its students, and the impact they will have on our community, our country, and on the world.”
