Hands-On Opportunities
Baja SAE Project
Students at Shippensburg University have the opportunity to participate in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) annual international competition. Teams of mostly mechanical engineering students design, construct, and weld BAJA buggies and compete against 80 to 90 other teams from schools from around the world.
Nitterhouse Concrete Products
Nitterhouse donated the materials for senior captone project for civil engineering majors and began a collaboration on their project titled Conceptual Framework for Floating Concrete Applications: Prestressed FRP in Lightweight Structural Design and Optimization. Students wroked with a team at Nitterhouse prestressing the FRP, mixing and pouring concrete and preparing beams for strength testing. Having access to the Nitterhouse facility and equipment made their project possible.

In addition to techincal resources provided to all Shippensburg University students, there is equipment that is only available to School of Engineering students. The majority of our labs are equipped with a keypad door lock so that students have access to the equipment outside of class.
